Student Facebook Pages - A New Agenda in the Classroom

Maggie McDonnell discovered that her Liberal Arts students had started a program specific Facebook page even before they entered college. Some students felt that the Facebook page was a more reliable way of staying on schedule with their homework than an agenda and that the Facebook page was an excellent way of catching up after missing one or several classes or getting additional information about concepts not totally mastered in the classroom.

Splitting a document into multiple sections allows you to vary formatting without necessarily starting a new page. In our example, we use the Word 2010 version. Note that if you use other word processing software, the procedures and location of the commands may vary but the section concept remains the same.

Changing Attitudes Changes Everything

Using universal design, the basic level courses in French as a Second Language at Dawson College, have revised planning and strategies while respecting the course specification. Focusing on students who suffer from dyslexia and dysgraphia, these new strategies have been applied to all, reducing individual difficulties as well as the difficulties of individual accommodation. Part of this change involves incorporating ICT into universal design.

Status in Colleges

The first version of the ICT Profile for College Students was published in 2009. From then on, colleges adapted this framework by beginning different projects to integrate it. In January 2011, results from a survey done with college ICT respondents showed that approximatively 30 colleges had implemented the ICT Profile for Students in one or more programs, and that other colleges were starting the process. The active learning methods have in common of placing the students in the middle of the learning process. An Online Course to Pass the OQLF French Exam

Two Dawson French teachers (Chantale Giguère and Laurent Duval) have developed a new online course called A Tutorial for the OQLF French Exam - Health Sector Students and Professionals. This 45-hour fully online course specifically designed for health sector is now offered by Dawson’s Center of Training and Development (CTD). The students are pharmacists, nurses, doctors, x-ray technicians or students in the health sector who want to improve their French competencies to work in the Quebec health system.
