The October meeting of Groupe Impression 3D Montréal took place on Thursday October 23 at UQAM’s Pavillon Judith-Jasmin. This group brings together 3D Printing users and professionals in the Montreal area. Meetings are held once a month, and members can register to present projects or topics of personal interest. Their website is bilingual and a great way to find out about regular meetings which are rich in information, truly presenting developments at the cutting edge of this rapidly developing technology. I am not a gamer but I have lived with gamers so I am very familiar with the allure of the very popular Massive Multi Online Role Play Games. (MMROPG’s). Like many teachers I dream of seeing my students as attracted to, interested in, and excited about their ESL class content as I am. Unfortunately, most games I came across and could integrate into my planning fell short of my needs or were difficult to adapt to the ESL classroom. Then I discovered Classcraft!

Audio Feedback To Give Meaning To Marking

To mark my students’ essays, I have turned to giving audio feedback. I can see real benefits in this for both my students and me. It gives a lot more meaning to grading. In audio mode the number of detailed comments that can be left increases dramatically when compared to written comments. The number of grade reviews in my classes has also decreased significantly since I have been using this method.

Meeting Students Where They’re At!

Kelly La Venture and Becki George of Northland College Wisconsin presented a workshop on hybrid instruction at the recent Canadian International Conference on Education (CICE) at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia from June 16-19, 2014. After their workshop, in conversation with Profweb’s Norm Spatz, they elaborated on their motivation for creating and teaching hybrid classes. The active learning methods have in common of placing the students in the middle of the learning process. Their teachers can then also think about giving them a role in the planning of the evaluation. Active learning is inspired by real-life contexts that are meaningful for the students, which can increase their level of motivation for the tasks that are suggested to them. It encourages durable learnings rather than using only their short-term memory.
