Changing Attitudes Changes Everything

Using universal design, the basic level courses in French as a Second Language at Dawson College, have revised planning and strategies while respecting the course specification. Focusing on students who suffer from dyslexia and dysgraphia, these new strategies have been applied to all, reducing individual difficulties as well as the difficulties of individual accommodation. Part of this change involves incorporating ICT into universal design.

Page layout parameters

Depending on the nature of the document you have to produce, it may be helpful to change the default layout provided by the word processor. This tutorial explains how to change the orientation of a document, create headers and footers, and edit styles. The demo uses the Word 2010 software, but the layout concepts are pretty much the same from one word processor to another.

Virtual Language Exchanges: Making Connections with Mixxer

Generate footnotes

It is possible to add footnotes to clarify your text or to quote a source. In CEGEP or university, it is mandatory to clearly quote all references. This is a basic principle of intellectual property. This capsule will show you how to add a footnote. To illustrate this example, we use the Word 2010 version. Note that even though the operating procedures may vary slightly from one software to another, they still remain quite similar.

Meeting Students Where They’re At!

Kelly La Venture and Becki George of Northland College Wisconsin presented a workshop on hybrid instruction at the recent Canadian International Conference on Education (CICE) at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia from June 16-19, 2014. After their workshop, in conversation with Profweb’s Norm Spatz, they elaborated on their motivation for creating and teaching hybrid classes. Kelly’s and Becki’s remarks are testimonials that providing flexible learning approaches builds contentment among students – helping Quebec college students master ICT profile skills.

The active learning methods have in common of placing the students in the middle of the learning process. Their teachers can then also think about giving them a role in the planning of the evaluation. Active learning is inspired by real-life contexts that are meaningful for the students, which can increase their level of motivation for the tasks that are suggested to them. It encourages durable learnings rather than using only their short-term memory.
