The year 2017 marks the 50^th anniversary of the creation of the CEGEPs. Even if the AQPC Symposium is highlighting this anniversary by taking a look at the accomplishments of the network, it is primarily focused on the present and the future - promoting recent innovations, current approaches that are being tested and examining the results of research that is being conducted within the colleges. In this way, Symposium attendees can explore the heritage that is being built day after day in the college network, and be inspired by it in order to enrich their own educational practice.

The CCDMD (Collegial Centre for Educational Materials Development) hosts the annual World of Images Intercollegiate Photo Contestfor students. This year marked the 6th edition of the contest, which is open to all students in the CEGEP network. The finalists of the contest had their photographs put on display at Collège de Maisonneuve from May 1 to May 5, 2017, and on May 3rd, the award ceremony and official opening of the exhibition took place.

Meeting Students Where They’re At!

Kelly La Venture and Becki George of Northland College Wisconsin presented a workshop on hybrid instruction at the recent Canadian International Conference on Education (CICE) at Cape Breton University in Sydney, Nova Scotia from June 16-19, 2014. After their workshop, in conversation with Profweb’s Norm Spatz, they elaborated on their motivation for creating and teaching hybrid classes. The active learning methods have in common of placing the students in the middle of the learning process. Their teachers can then also think about giving them a role in the planning of the evaluation. Active learning is inspired by real-life contexts that are meaningful for the students, which can increase their level of motivation for the tasks that are suggested to them. It encourages durable learnings rather than using only their short-term memory.
