Year One Update on the Steelcase Room Implementation at LaSalle College

In March 2017, I reported on LaSalle College’s implementation of a Steelcase Active Learning Classroom. Over the summer, the pedagogical support team at the College completed its first annual report on the 2-year Steelcase experimentation and research project. The administration of the college wished to share some of its insights and findings with the Profweb readership, and what follows are some of the highlights of the report.

There is a good chance that teachers are already integrating some of these skills into their courses. Using a simple grid, Nicole Perreault is asking teachers to identify those activities in order to improve the effectiveness of the guide.

YouTube in the Classroom

GenZers and Millenials use YouTube recreationally, but many are now using it to learn. They find it easier to understand something when they can watch a demonstration of the skill. They also like the fact that they can rewind and watch the demonstration as many times as necessary without having the feeling that they are inconveniencing anyone. Think of the trend of video-game walkthroughs where video game players film themselves playing a game and comment as they progress through the game. The new gamers learn all the tricks by watching more experienced gamers play.
