Mission
The ACPQ (Association des collèges privés du Québec) is an umbrella organization for 25 Cegeps subsidized by the MESRS (Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur, Recherche et Science). These establishments have some 18,000 students enrolled in career and pre-university programs. Quebec private colleges focus on promoting student success through the quality of education they offer and through innovation and dynamism. The ACPQ organizes annual pedagogical workshops for teachers and personnel of member colleges. It also manages research support programs and international activities.
Defining the ACPQ
The ACPQ manages a research support program for teachers working in its member colleges. This program, PREP (Programme de recherche et d’expérimentation pédagogiques), is subsidized by the MESRST (Ministère de l'Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche, de la Science et de la Technologie). PREP targets the development and maintenance of a culture of research and pedagogical innovation in the subsidized private college network. To do so, the ACPQ provides funding for applied research on pedagogy and on the conditions connected to college-level teaching and learning.
Research supported in the past by PREP has included research related to the integration of technology into teaching. The ACPQ annually organizes a forum on research in the subsidized private college network.
The ACPQ also annually organizes pedagogical workshops. These workshops are in the form of a colloquium attended each year by some 200 teachers, administrators, and professionals working in the subsidized private college network of Quebec. Each year some 40 workshops take place, about a quarter of them dealing with the integration of technology into teaching.
As well, under an agreement between MESRST and the ACPQ, subsidized private colleges must apply to the ACPQ to obtain funding for activities connected to international development.
