Each week, the IT Representatives Network (IT-REPS/REPTICs) offers brief tutorials in the form of video clips that were developed to support the development of ICT Profile abilities. These clips are specifically designed for students, but are useful to anyone that wants to improve their technology skills.

Please note that it is possible for you to embed the video clips from the ICT Profile for Students into your blog or web page. To do this:

• Click on the link that appears to the lower left of each video (it looks like this: © World of Images, CCDMD). This link will take you to the clip on the World of Images web site.
• Near the top of the page click on “</> Embed Video”
• Copy and paste the text that corresponds to the size of the video you would like to integrate into your blog or web page.

Adding Metadata to Digital Documents

Metadata provided in the coding of a given file allows information about it to be displayed (such as the title, the author or keywords) making it easier to retrace the file. This tutorial explains how to assign metadata to different types of files.

Filing Digital Documents Effectively

Sorting our digital files efficiently allows to locate a specific file quickly. Our operating system already provides a few basic tools for sharing and storing documents that we have created or downloaded. But using only this filing system is not necessarily efficient? Whether it be for CEGEP or university, when writing a paper you are obligated to cite the sources used to support your argument. This is fundamental when it comes to respecting the intellectual property of others. In this 6-minute video we look at skills related to intellectual integrity and the guidelines to follow regardless of the length of the text or the medium used. You will quickly see how easy it is to copy and use sections verbatim from another text and how to cite authors when using some ot their ideas.

Sorting, Searching, and Filtering Digital Documents

Sorting, searching, and filtering digital documents are different ways of quickly locating files that are saved on your computer, according to specific criteria. These operations are essential when you need to process or present information that you have collected. This 4-minute clip will help you to find your files, and help you to master these operations.

Use the “Average” and “Sum” Functions

With a spreadsheet, there are many ways to add or to calculate the average for data from a range of cells. To efficiently use a spreadsheet, you should familiarize yourself with the AVERAGE and AutoSum functions. This is the topic for the following 4-minutes video. The 2010 version of Excel is used to illustrate in this example. You will notice that spreadsheets vary from one software package to another. However, they have many similarities.
