The institutional version of Office 365 for Education is probably gaining ground in your college. According to the work plan of college ITREPS, a majority of colleges offer this online collaborative platform. Researching Best Presentation Practices and Sharing of PowerPoints

Presentation software is a ubiquitous part of lecturing in the college network. When shared with students, the presentation slides can be a very useful tool for students, and particularly for those who have special needs. The Adaptech Research Network recently conducted a series of focus groups on presentation approaches and sharing of slides that involved students, teachers and professional staff. The team invited Profweb to a meeting at the end of the Fall 2017 semester to share their initial findings.

MaVieTECHNO Directory to Promote Digital Competencies for Young Learners

On December 8th, 2017, a premier event for the new MaVieTECHNO website was held. The site is a one-stop directory for a multitude of activities and resources designed to inspire youth to develop their digital literacy and competency. The site is geared towards educational stakeholders and parents alike. The launch event took place at the beautifully-renovated and high-tech Desjardins lab, located at the Complexe Desjardins in downtown Montreal.

Delving Deeper into Student Data Visualization with Program Analytics

In October 2017, I attended the presentation “Program Analytics”, led by Sameer Bhatnagar and Jonathon Sumner, held as part of the Ped Day activities at Dawson College. I came away from the session thoroughly impressed by Dawson’s learning analytics initiative. I contacted the workshop leaders in hopes that they would share their project details with the college network.

Blended Learning with Microsoft Office Mix for PowerPoint

Office Mix is a simple free screen recording add-in from Microsoft that integrates directly into PowerPoint. I discovered the tool at a teachers’ CAAA conference in Newfoundland over the summer of 2016. I was excited to try it when I returned to Dawson in the fall. Combined with a flipped classroom pedagogy that includes problem-based learning, integrating this tool into my workflow allowed me to produce learning material that dramatically improved the success rates of my students.
