Imagining Intelligent Spaces

Norm Spatz Editor (retired), Profweb
Alexandre Enkerli Technopedagogical Advisor, Support and Innovation in Digital Pedagogy, Collecto

The October meeting of Groupe Impression 3D Montréal took place on Thursday October 23 at UQAM’s Pavillon Judith-Jasmin. This group brings together 3D Printing users and professionals in the Montreal area. Meetings are held once a month, and members can register to present projects or topics of personal interest. Their website is bilingual and a great way to find out about regular meetings which are rich in information, truly presenting developments at the cutting edge of this rapidly developing technology. Applications in education are very much a part of this trend, and Vitrine Technologie-Éducation and Profweb are pleased to present our readers with a glimpse of developments that may have repercussions in the classrooms of our colleges.

Norm Spatz Editor (retired), Profweb
Martin Parrot Editor, Profweb

Among the articles and real-life stories appearing in our French service over the last month are a number of great reads not available in our English edition. There has been a new addition to our French Digital Tools section about Zotero, as well as a real-life story on using this software, both pieces by Dany Thibault, a Social Science teacher at Collège Montmorency. Caroline Villeneuve, Profweb’s coordinator, posts an article summarizing important points at the recent IT Representatives’ Network semi-annual meeting in Quebec City. As well, French editor Marc-André Laflamme writes an article about a graphic design resource video series called Idiko.

From the French Side: ‘Propulsing’ Distance Education in Philosophy and Beyond!

Norm Spatz Editor (retired), Profweb
Martin Parrot Editor, Profweb

Daniel Tremblay, an Administration teacher at Collège Maisonneuve, talks about Propulse in the real-life story ”La collaboration électronique pour la réussite des projets étudiants”. Propulse is discussed as a free alternative to management software like MS Project, although it is limited in its use of Gantt Charts. Remember those? The advantage of Propulse is that it’s free, but it’s only available in French. This is why there are two linguistic services in Profweb.

To Take Notes or Not - That is the Question

Norm Spatz Editor (retired), Profweb
Martin Parrot Editor, Profweb

On November 14, 2013, the English services of Profweb and APOP teamed up to deliver an online webinar to the Quebec college community discussing the pros and cons of taking class notes by hand and using a computer. Profweb’s editorial team realizes that the issues discussed address a much larger community than those who were able to attend. This column seeks to make this information available to a wider audience.
