Microsoft Announces Stream - A Hosting Option for Your Pedagogical Videos

In June 2017, Microsoft announced the general availability of a video hosting service called Stream in its Office 365 ecosystem. Given that a number of teachers, staff and students in the Quebec college network have subscriptions to this ecosystem, new possibilities are available for teaching and learning.

Angela Mastracci has been giving careful thought to formative assessment strategies at the college level for over a decade, first as a teacher, then as an education consultant and most recently as a pedagogical instructor with PERFORMA and AQPC (Association québécoise de pédagogie collégiale). She previously shared her insights with me in this Profweb article. Here, Angela shares hands-on tips on integrating ICT tools into 2 key parts of the formative assessment process: eliciting evidence of students’ learning and providing feedback.

Using readability analysis to make students stronger writers

Communication is one of 5 common competencies developed throughout CEGEP education. College students turn in written work in most, if not all, of their courses. Thus, to hone their writing skills, they need sustained support across classes. Training students on the concept of readability may help them become more mindful and effective readers and writers.

Insights and strategies to design formative assessment that “counts”

Angela Mastracci is as passionate about formative assessment as she is expert at it. Angela first started pondering its importance when she was a fashion design teacher at Cégep Marie-Victorin. In 2008, she became an education consultant at the same college. Even though she retired from this position in 2017, Angela is still very much active professionally, teaching PERFORMA courses and leading AQPC workshops on the topic. I had a chat with Angela about successfully embedding formative assessment in a course.

“You’re Welcome” – The New Flipped-approach Tool for Extra English Practice

The Modern Languages Department at Cégep Limoilou has developed a new interactive website called “You’re Welcome”, which provides complementary English activities for program specific English courses in general education. In addition to the website, in-person workshops are held twice a week. Three different programs were targeted for this project, all related to the service industries:
