ICT PROJECTS FAQs: Everything you wanted to know about APOP Ed Tech Support!

In the Fall of 2011, APOP launched an ongoing Call for Proposals for ICT Projects which aimed to support local initiatives in Anglophone cegeps. Since then, and many pilot projects later, we are still eager to learn about your aspirations and ideas in regard to your teaching and learning activities. So, here is a list of questions, in an F.A.Q. format, which illustrates what ICT Projects and their outcomes are.

What are ICT Projects really?

Well, there is no simple and to-the-point answer to this question because these projects start with your concerns and ideas in educational technologies! We offer pedagogical and technological support services as well as a framework in which you can test-run your ideas. Your proposals can range from classroom scenarios, pedagogical strategies, mobile learning, learning platforms, active learning, communities of practice… there are lots of possibilities! In addition, every project is adapted to the teacher’s specific context, thus the proportion of pedagogical and technological support may vary from one proposal to another. And whether this ICT integration represents a small or a big step for you and your students, you can always count on APOP’s expertise and guidance to support your activities.

All right, no simple answer… Well, could you give me some examples of projects?

In Vanier College, we have collaborated with the Pedagogical Development Office and Edward Awad, a biology teacher, to find a simple and cheap way to transform a conventional class into an active learning one. In addition to pedagogical documentation, APOP lent a presentation adaptor (LiteShow III) with which Mr. Awad tested active pedagogy strategies in the classroom. You will surely hear more about this experimentation in an upcoming Profweb Story. As well, in accordance with Dawson College’s strategic plan, we are helping out the FSL Department to develop online classroom pedagogical strategies. Lastly, we are supporting an ongoing evaluation community of practice set up by Lee Anne Johnson, Pedagogical Advisor at Heritage College, which is now breaking the barrier of language with contributors from the Francophone collegial community.

If I agree to plan and develop an ICT Project, what would its outcomes be?

We ask for a short report, usually 5 pages maximum, to share with the Anglophone college community through various channels. As these projects are funded by the Canada-Quebec Entente, we take pains to ensure that the supported projects can be used by any college in the province. This also means that once a project is completed, APOP publishes the results on its webpage as well as additional references. For instance, in a project with Cathy Dufour, a nursing teacher at Heritage College, the list of apps that were useful to her is detailed on a separate document. In addition, in a partnership with Profweb, Stories and EdTech Webinars may be produced to further broadcast the newly tested pedagogical strategies and technologies in the classroom.

And if I do have an idea for a project, how can I sign up?

To learn more about project opportunities and modalities, the Project Submission Guide and the Call for Proposals webpage remain the cornerstone resources for documentation and ongoing or past project outcomes. To submit a project, please complete the Project Submission Form and send it by email to info@apop.qc.ca. We will review your proposal and give you feedback as soon as possible.
