A Crucible for Learning - The 2013 ACPQ Pedagogical Workshops

Each year the Pedagogical Workshops of the ACPQ (Association des collèges privés du Québec) bring together about 200 teachers, administrators and non-teaching personnel from the private subsidized college network.

Last year, participants focused on the theme At the Heart of Teaching. Fully a quarter of the activities dealt with the integration of information and communication technology into college education. Among these was a laboratory on clickers led by Veronica Ponce (who wrote a Profweb story on the subject) as well as one on the creation of a Weebly website, led by Suzanne Roy and Marie-Stéfanie Taschereau (who have also published a story in Profweb).

This year, the Pedagogical Workshops hosted by Collège LaSalle will be held May 27 and 28 at Manoir Saint-Sauveur in Saint-Sauveur, in the Laurentians. The organizing committee has selected the theme: A Crucible for Learning.

Creuset

The theme of the ACPQ's 2013 Pedagogical Workshops is "A Crucible for Learning".

The opening keynote will be given by Christian Bouchard, a professor of French language and literature at Collège Laflèche, who will discuss imagination as a source of innovation in colleges.

During the 40 workshops offered, participants will be encouraged to explore ways of uniting all of the members of the college community, especially students, to strive for quality instruction and motivated learning. Below are several workshops that have themes related to information technology:

  • Videogames and the Humanities: Thinking Critically in the Digital Age.

The closing keynote will be delivered by the psychologist Amir Georges Sabongui and will examine stress management in the workplace.

We remind our readers that Profweb will not only be represented at the Exhibitors Salon, which will be held on Monday May 27, but will offer two workshops: Profweb, un creuset pour les TIC with Émilie Lavery, and Quebec's IT Trends in the Crucible of International Exchanges with Norm Spatz.

The Pedagogical Workshops program will be available in mid-April. Personnel at member colleges of the ACPQ are invited to visit the website of the association. They can find information about the Pedagogical Workshops and leave their comments and suggestions as well.
